PAUL R. BEATY, PhD
Dr. Beaty received a PhD from the University of Illinois in 1979. Prior to completing the degree, he taught school, managed a 5000 acre wildlife refuge for the Illinois Department of Conservation, and performed research at the Illinois Natural History Survey - one of the most recognized and acclaimed fisheries and wildlife institutions in the country. Dr. Beaty transferred to Southern California to direct aquatic research regarding the impact of Grass Carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella) in irrigation canals for a multi-agency task force headquartered at Coachella Valley Water District. The research resulted in the first legal introductions of triploid grass carp to California and solved major aquatic plant problems for the local water districts. Hydrilla which threatened to severly impact the area was now controlled.

During this research Beaty was contacted by several golf course superintendents who had water management problems. It became obvious there was a need for someone who had an understanding of freshwater biology. Beaty began looking at local companies who provided management service and purchased Southwest Aquatics. The company has grown to become the largest in Southern California and continues to expand.
